We are fast approaching the climax of the European soccer season with the top competitions, including the English Premier League, Spanish La Liga, Italian Serie A, French Ligue 1 and German Bundesliga, nearing the finish line. Some of the leagues mentioned have already found this season’s champion, with Bayern Munich successfully defending their title in Germany and PSG back on top in France. Real Madrid are again the rulers of Spain. But there’s still all to play for in Italy and England.
As we get into the thick of May, we will see the competitions already mentioned played to a conclusion before being wrapped up until August, when the 2024/23 campaigns will begin. Before followers of soccer can even start to think about the next season and the FIFA World Cup 2024 that will be played in Qatar between November and December, there’s the small matter of the three European Cup finals still to be played. The deciding matches of the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League will all be staged this month, and there are three fascinating games on the programme.
The upcoming matches have whipped residents of planet football into a frenzy with fans making predictions, placing bets at the top online betting Florida apps and booking tickets to the final or organising watch parties with friends, family and fellow supporters. We are excited about the upcoming matches and aim to bring our readers fully up to speed with what’s going on courtesy of this informative and easy to follow preview of the three UEFA organised matches.
Liverpool v Real Madrid – Champions League
This is the biggest of the three matches and the one that will crown the champions of Europe. It’s an England vs Spain Champions League final, and the winner of this trophy will be recognised as the best soccer team in Europe this season. They will also etch their name in the history books.
Both Liverpool and Real Madrid have won this trophy many times in the past and rank among the best and most successful teams in the continent, so it’s fitting that they will meet in the final. It’s the game all neutrals wanted to see as two free-scoring, ambitious and supremely talented squads prepare to do battle. Liverpool beat Villarreal in a stunning semi-final before Real Madrid eliminated last season’s beaten finalists Man City in a goal-fest that was a wonderful advert for the sport.
The final of the Champions League will be played on Saturday 28th May at the Stade de France, Saint-Denis. If you watch only one soccer match this year, make it this one as it will be a thrill a minute from the first whistle to the final kick.
Rangers v Frankfurt – Europa League
This will be another stunning match as Scotland take on Germany. The final of UEFA’s second competition is a fairytale, pairing two teams that were outsiders from the start of their involvement, written off by pundits and tipsters at every turn. It’s not often you will see either Rangers or Frankfurt in a European final, so this promises to be one for the ages. Both sets of fans will make their voices heard as they celebrate in style.
Rangers are punching above their weight, but this isn’t the Glaswegians’ first European final. They have already eliminated two big names from German football in, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen. Will the Gers complete the treble by beating Frankfurt on Wednesday 18th May in Seville, Spain?
Roma v Feyenoord – Europa Conference League
The last of three UEFA competitions is an Italy v Netherlands final as Roma take on Feyenoord. That match will be played on Wednesday 25th May at the Arena Kombetare, Tirana, and although this is the basement of three tournaments, it will be no less exciting for the teams involved and their fans who travel to the final.
In addition to a great chance for Roma or Feyenoord to win a European Cup, this is also an opportunity to make history as this will be the first-ever final of a tournament created this season. Will Roma or Feyenoord take their shot at glory?
