It’s the middle of summer and it’s hot. Really hot. So hot, in fact, that you’re considering hiring an aircon company to help cool your home down. But with so many companies out there offering aircon services, how can you be sure that you’re hiring the best one?
In this blog article, we will give you some tips on how to find the best aircon company for your needs. We’ll also provide a list of questions to ask before making your final decision.
1. Ask friends and family for recommendations
They may have recently worked with a company that they can recommend to you. Your relatives, business contacts, or even high school acquaintances may be able to provide personal recommendations of good aircon installers in your area.
Closer to you – saves you time, money, and effort!
Always be wary of online reviews – many of them are fake or paid for. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a quick shortcut that would allow you to identify the best service providers in your area?
2. Do they have experience?
This is important for two main reasons. Firstly, because they will know how to install your aircon correctly from the get-go. Secondly, because they’ll know how to provide an outstanding level of customer service since they’ve been in the business for a long already. In other words, they’ll be able to solve any problems that may come up later.
3. Are they insured?
A good aircon company will have insurance for their employees. They are also required by law to have at least basic liability insurance coverage, which means that if someone is hurt or the equipment is damaged during an installation, you won’t get stuck with a huge bill. You can find out if your potential service provider has proper insurance coverage by asking them directly or checking on their website. If they don’t, then just pick another company.
4. Ask about temperature guarantees and warranties
Whenever you buy new air-conditioning units or ask for repairs, there are some special conditions that the technicians need to follow in order to uphold warranties. If they don’t follow through, then the warranty becomes void.
Not all aircon companies are aware of this, so ask your service providers if they know how to uphold temperature guarantees and warranties. You can also ask them about any other special conditions that may apply to your specific case before you sign a service contract with them.
Now that you have these tips in mind, here is a list of questions you should be asking your potential aircon company:
What kind of guarantee or warranty do you offer? How long does it last?
Do I have to pay for parts or materials upfront? If so, how much will it be? If not, when will I owe payment, and under what circumstances?
How much will the service cost and how do you determine that amount? What if I need extra work performed – can we arrange that, and what would it cost me?
When should I expect to hear from you and when can you come and start working on it (and finish, if it’s a big job)?
Do I have to be home when you do the work or is it okay for me to leave while you’re here? Can someone else sign off on your work as well so I know everything was done correctly by two different people? If not, why not?
Will there be anything left behind after this project is complete – materials, trash, debris, etc.? If so, will you take care of it?
What kind of vehicle do you have to serve my home at the level I require? Do you use subcontractors for parts of a job or specific tasks? How long has your company been in business?
Will there be anyone else coming into my home to visit us while this project is underway other than yourself and who will they be/what will their role be? Can I speak with them beforehand to determine whether they are qualified for this task?
After the work is complete, can you come back to fix anything that isn’t working properly at no extra cost (assuming nothing was broken during installation)?
What payment methods do you accept?
If something comes up after the work is done, can I call you back at no charge?
Can you provide me with references from recent customers in my area who have similar systems/set-ups and who were happy with your service (and willing to give a recommendation)?
How long will it take for me to break even on the cost of this job?
Are there any discounts you can offer – senior citizen/BGE bill pay customer/first-time customer, etc.?
After we sign a contract, what is the earliest date you can start working on my project?
What are your normal business hours so I know when to expect you?
Do you have liability insurance coverage as well as worker’s comp?
What is your area of expertise when it comes to air conditioning installation, repair or maintenance?
May I ask why your company was selected over the others that provided quotes for this project? Do you have any special certifications or college degrees in HVAC work that others might not have?
Do you have reviews online that I can read before deciding whether to hire you for this job (customer testimonials, etc.)? If not, do you mind if I check out what people are saying about your company via Google search (or some other search engine)?
What is the process for contacting you if I decide to move forward with this job? Do I call, text or email you first or will you be calling me to follow up on this opportunity?
